What Is NeoGen? Nitrogen Plasma Skin Regeneration Explained

If you’ve heard the word “plasma” and pictured something from a science-fiction film, you’re not alone. NeoGen is one of the most exciting regenerative treatments we offer at Fox Collective, and it’s also one of the most misunderstood. So let’s start at the beginning.

What is nitrogen plasma?

Plasma is often called the fourth state of matter, alongside solid, liquid and gas. When nitrogen gas is energised, it becomes plasma, which can carry energy in a very controlled way.

NeoGen delivers that energy to your skin as precise, controlled heat. There’s no laser, no light, and no needles. The heat is delivered to the skin’s surface and travels down into the deeper layers, where it triggers the skin’s natural repair response.

What happens in your skin

When the skin senses that controlled heat, it starts a healing process. Cells called fibroblasts, your skin’s collagen builders, are prompted to produce new collagen and elastin. At the same time, older, damaged tissue is gradually remodelled.

This is what we mean by “regenerative”. Rather than filling, freezing or covering, the treatment encourages your skin to renew itself.

The natural dressing

One of the things that sets NeoGen apart is what happens at the surface. With many resurfacing treatments, the outer layer of skin is removed, leaving fresh, raw skin exposed while it heals.

With NeoGen, the treated outer layer stays in place. It acts as a natural protective dressing while new skin forms underneath, then flakes away over the following days. This is part of why the treatment can be tailored, with lighter options for those who want minimal disruption to busy lives.

What can NeoGen help with?

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Crepey, thinning skin, including around the eyes, neck and chest
  • Uneven texture and dullness
  • Uneven tone and some types of pigmentation
  • Acne scarring and enlarged pores

When will I see results?

You’ll usually notice brighter, smoother skin once the treated layer has shed. But the real story unfolds over the following months, as new collagen forms and matures. That’s why NeoGen results tend to look natural: they arrive gradually, as your own skin improves.

Who is it for?

Many of our patients are women in their 40s, 50s and 60s noticing the effects of falling oestrogen and collagen. NeoGen is designed for exactly that kind of change. It isn’t right for everyone, though, and certain medical conditions, medications and skin concerns need careful assessment first.

Want to know if NeoGen could work for you? Read more on our NeoGen treatment page, or book a consultation at our Hitchin clinic and we’ll talk through your skin, your goals and the right level of treatment.
