Exercise & Confidence
Leaking during exercise is common. It isn't something you have to put up with.
A little leak when you run, skip, jump on a trampoline, lift weights or cough mid-class is known as stress urinary incontinence. It happens when the pelvic floor muscles can’t fully resist the sudden pressure that impact and effort put on your bladder.
It’s far more common than most women realise. Research reviewing female athletes found leakage rates rising sharply with high-impact sport, from around 5% in low-impact activity to as high as 80% in trampolining. Many women quietly change how they train: avoiding skipping and box jumps, wearing pads to the gym, planning runs around toilets, or giving up classes they love.
Emsella uses HIFEM (high-intensity focused electromagnetic) technology to stimulate thousands of strong pelvic floor contractions in each session, far more than you could achieve with exercises alone, to help re-educate and strengthen these muscles.
Who we help
Leaks during running, gym & HIIT · Postpartum pelvic floor recovery · Stress incontinence · Urgency & frequency · Menopausal pelvic changes · Intimate wellbeing
You'll feel tingling and strong pelvic floor contractions, a bit like very intense pelvic floor exercises. The intensity is adjusted to what's comfortable for you. Most patients read or scroll on their phone during the 28-minute session.
No. You sit on the Emsella chair fully clothed, so the treatment is completely discreet. You can go straight back to your day, or the gym, afterwards.
Leaking during impact exercise is usually stress urinary incontinence, linked to pelvic floor weakness. Emsella is designed to strengthen the pelvic floor, and many women notice better control during exercise over the course of their treatment. We'll assess your symptoms first to make sure it's the right approach for you.
Your pelvic floor needs time to heal first. We can start treatment from 6 weeks after a vaginal birth, or from 12 weeks after a caesarean, once you've had your postnatal check. We'll talk through your birth and recovery at your consultation.
We offer a course of six or ten sessions, depending on your symptoms and goals. To maintain your results, we recommend a maintenance session around every four months.
Emsella isn't suitable during pregnancy, or if you have certain metal or electronic implants in the pelvic area (such as a copper coil or some joint replacements), a pacemaker, or some other medical conditions. We check this carefully before treatment.
Yes. Pelvic floor exercises and specialist women's health physiotherapy are the recommended first steps for stress incontinence, and Emsella can work alongside them. If your symptoms are severe, new or include pain or bleeding, please see your GP first.
How Emsella works
Strengthening the pelvic floor, gently and without effort
Emsella uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy to trigger thousands of deep pelvic floor muscle contractions in a single 28-minute session. You stay fully clothed and seated, with no downtime. Watch how the treatment works below.
After Having A Baby
Postpartum pelvic floor rehabilitation
Pregnancy and birth place enormous strain on the pelvic floor. According to NHS England, around one in three women experience urinary incontinence in the first year after having a baby, and for many it doesn’t simply go away on its own.
Whether you’re leaking when you laugh, sneeze, pick up your toddler or try to get back to running, Emsella offers a gentle, non-invasive way to help rebuild pelvic floor strength. You stay fully clothed, there’s no recovery time, and a session fits easily around nap times and nursery runs.
Treatment can start from 6 weeks after a vaginal birth, or 12 weeks after a caesarean. We’ll talk through your birth, recovery and goals at your consultation, and work alongside any pelvic health physiotherapy you’re having.
